Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger
Born in Graz, Austria, Arnold was raised with strict rules and morals instilled by his parents.
Coming to America to make his fortune, Schwarzenegger landed the title role in the low-budget Hercules in New York (1970).
But it was his supporting role in Stay Hungry (1976) for which Scwarzenegger won a Best Newcomer Golden Globe, and his turn playing himself in the documentary Pumping Iron (1977), that prompted more interest from casting agents.
So he obtained the lead role in Conan the Barbarian (1982) but his most memorable and career-launching role came with The Terminator in 1984.
Over the next few years, Schwarzenegger's films became increasingly technological and violent, including Predator (1987) and Total Recall (1990). In 1993 the first fiasco came with the tongue-in cheek Last Action Hero. Arnold made his last movie in 2003 with part three in The Terminator series.
He announced his candidacy for Governor of California, in August 2003. Two months later, Schwarzenegger was elected, earning nearly 3.4 million votes.
