Saving private Ryan

1998 USA 170 minutes Color

In the Last Great Invasion of the Last Great War, The Greatest Challenge for Eight Men was Saving... One.

The film opens with the pivotal D-Day assault on Normandy, a technologically brilliant restaging of the tide-turning battle that's as horrifying for its immediacy as its unflinching depiction of the graphic carnage.

The plot concerns an Army mission to rescue Private Ryan, the last of a group of brothers who have all been killed in the war. Eight men are chosen to perform this duty. During the course of the film we get to know each of them intimately. Death and general mayhem is graphically portrayed throughout the film. It is done so well that you are forced to believe all other visions of war you have been shown, are vague shadows of the true horror.Spielberg has captured the horror and confusion of battle as few other directors have ever envisioned.
