Trainspotting
The hit of choice for Renton (Ewan McGregor) and his friends, in their dilapidated Edinburgh squat, is heroin. Amongst the litter of abuse lie Sick Boy (Johnny Lee Miller), Spud (Ewen Bremner) and Alison (Susan Vidler) who live lives of stealing, getting high and sleeping. Watched over by their dealer, Mother Superior (Peter Mullan), the subtle charms of heroine are explained.
They are all capable of getting off drugs, and occasionally they do. But they are so depressed by real life that they go back on smack. Their hard-drinking and often psychotic friend Begbie (Robert Carlyle) gets the entire group into some bizarre, amusing scrapes, from shoplifting to bar fights to bum deals. But then Renton must make a choice, he must come of age and realize that his so-called mates are not his friends.

Begbie: It's fucking boring after a while without the cards. Sick Boy: I'm sorry. Begbie: Bit fucking late, like. Sick Boy: Why didn't *you* bring them? Begbie: 'CAUSE I FUCKING TOLD YOU TO BRING THEM, YOU DOSS CUNT! Sick Boy: ...Christ.
