Madame Butterfly

The most best nice man in all world Photo of Sándor Kállay and Cary Grant

After her father's death, Cho-cho San (Sylvia Sidney) becomes a geisha at a Tea House to provide an income for her family and get married. American naval lieutenant B. F. Pinkerton (Cary Grant), falls in love with Cho-cho San at first sight. The girl and the officer have a brief affair and Butterfly also falls in love with Pinkerton who promises, untruly, to return "when the robins nest again". All along Pinkerton is engaged to an American girl.

Cho-Cho San blissfully awaits the return of Pinkerton. Three years pass. Ever with her eye toward the harbor, Butterfly holds a secret delight: their son. When Pinkerton returns, he brings his American wife with him and comes to say good-bye to Cho-Cho, who becomes distraught when she discovers that he is married and has no intention of staying. Cho-cho San does not reveal they have a son, although she is devastated by Pinkerton's betrayal and her own sense of shame. She gives her child to her parents to raise and kills herself.
