UK 1996 color 93 minutes
Thank you, your honor. With God's help I'll conquer this terrible affliction
The
hit of choice for Renton (Ewan McGregor) and his friends, in their dilapidated Edinburgh squat, is heroin.
Amongst the litter of abuse lie Sick Boy (Johnny Lee Miller), Spud (Ewen Bremner) and Alison (Susan Vidler),
while her baby Dawn crawls among them. One of the three is the father but they're to wasted to know or care.
Watched over by their dealer, Mother Superior (Peter Mullan), the subtle charms of heroine are explained.
They
trie to kick the habit, get into fights and get involved in a big drugs deal. Finally, Spud and Mark are caught
shoplifting with Spud being sent to jail. The conditions of Renton's probation are that he stays on a rehabilitation
course. The lure of one final hit is too much to resist though, with the unfortunate result that he overdoses.
His parents come to pick up the pieces, as they've done before, and confine him at home, forcing hi, to undergo
cold turkey.
