You're just the fucking mayonnaise in a bad sandwich
Ben (Robert De Niro) is a struggling movie producer who has just suffered through his second divorce. His relationship with his children is distant, at best. Ben tries to juggle an actual life with an outrageous series of crises in his day job.
The first, titled Fiercely, starring Sean Penn (played by Penn himself), has fared very poorly in test screenings. The studio head, Lou (Catherine Keener), is pressuring Ben to change the depressing ending. He is also trying to placate a difficult actor named Bruce Willis (played by Willis) who refuses to shave his beard, in violation of his contract. But most important, Ben struggles to hold on to his Vanity Fair power ranking.
