The Scarlet Claw
For the first time we've been retained by a corpse
Lord William Penrose (Paul Cavanagh) is attending a debate on the occult and supernatural with Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and his assistant Dr. John Watson (Nigel Bruce). Then, Lord Penrose receives a message that his wife Lady Penrose has been murdered in the small village of La Mort Rouge. They journey to La Mort Rouge to investigate the murder.
The villagers believe the murders point out the reappearance of a legendary ghost whose glowing form can be seen floating through the fog-shrouded marshes. Holmes deduces that a deranged actor is behind the murders because he has been wronged by certain people in the village. He is a master of disguise and could be anyone.
