You can fool me, but you cannot fool Ernest Hemingway

Gil (Owen Wilson) is a successful Hollywood screenwriter on vacation in Paris with his brisk fiancee, Inez (Rachel McAdams). He's a wordy enthusiast for the City of Light in general, and the 1920s golden age of Fitzgerald-Hemingway Paris in particular. His girlfriend, however, prefers to spend her time in the company of Paul (Michael Sheen), a pompous visiting academic.

He gets an unexpected opportunity to experience the old days of Paris when, at the stroke of midnight, he's picked up by an old sedan. Its occupants give him a ride and take him to a party where he ends up meeting F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso and one of his mistresses, Adriana (Marion Cotillard). Gil likes Adrianna very much, and he finds himself caught between the past with Adriana and the present with the unhappy Inez.
