Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper) has recently been dumped by his girlfriend Lindy (Abbie Cornish) because he failed to meet the deadline to turn in his new book. Then his life is transformed by NZT, a top secret smart drug that allows him to use all of his mind and become the ultimate version of himself. He is able to remember everything he has heard, seen or read, and he uses the information to become successful in the financial world.
Eddie's economic success attracts the attention of a Wall Street tycoon Carl Van Loon (Robert De Niro), who hires him to enable a massive corporate merger. But Eddie's also got to the attention of violent men willing to do almost anything to get their hands on his stash of NZT. He becomes entangled in a criminal network. Can Eddie depend on to his lessening supply long enough to outwit his enemies and solve the serious side effects of the drug?
