Biography:

Liz was born in London, England with dual British and American citizenship. In 1939 after England entered World War II, her parents decided to return to the United States to avoid hostilities.

Little Elizabeth soon attracted the attention of movie scouts and in 1942 she made her screen debut in There's one born every minute. She won her her first "adult" role in Conspirator (1949) but with the major roles onscreen, came worldwide attention off-screen, most notably due to a succession of famous or rich husbands and a series of health crises throughout her life.

In 1956 she appeared in the hit Giant with James Dean and in 1958 in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Paul Newman. She was again in the headlines with Cleopatra (1962), which provided the background to her well-publicized romance with actor Richard Burton and by the time Mike Nichols directed them in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966) they had become filmdom's most famous co-stars.

In 1981, Taylor made her Broadway debut in The Little Foxes. In 1985 she co-founded the American Foundation for AIDS Research after the death of her former co-star Rock Hudson.

Elizabeth became a dame (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in 1999 and in 2003 she announced her retirement.
