I don't want to be a flying grandpa of the French cinema
Congratulations
Next month it will be Jean-Paul`s 77th birthday. He was born in 1933 in Neuilly-sur-Seine (France)
Biography:
Belmondo's early success stemmed from stage-bred acting skills and unconventional looks. The breakthrough role in Jean-Luc Godard's A bout de souffle (1960) made him one of the key figures in the French New Wave, effortlessly carrying more than a dozen films before redefining his persona in L'homme de Rio (1964).
Belmondo became renowned for doing his own stunts as well as for his charming screen presence in such movies as the hit Les Tribulations d'un Chinois en Chine (1965), the comic caper The Brain (1968), and his second film with Alain Delon, Borsalino (1970).
In the 70s and into the 80s, Belmondo moved into playing urbane characters, albeit with a touch of cynicism, Le casse (1971), Le magnifique (1973), L'as des as (1982) and Le Solitaire (1987).
In the late eighties his popularity declined and he finally made his return to the stage. Jean-Paul returned as the Jean Valjean character in Claude Lelouch's variation on Les Miserables (1995) followed by the bedroom farce Desire (1996).
He suffered a stroke in 2001 but returned to the screen two years ago with one of his worst films, Un homme et son chien (2008).
Belmondo has only made one English-language film, the international Is Paris Burning? (1966). He has been awarded numerous awards and prizes for his work, including the Légion d'honneur in 1991.
